“ACHIEVING WORLD-CLASS RESEARCH PERFORMANCE THROUGH ACTIVE INVESTMENT IN R&D AS WELL AS THE BEST AI SERVICE”
(Upstage = 2023/6/22) AI startup Upstage achieved the best performance in Korea in data-driven research.
Upstage (CEO Seong-Hoon Kim, www.upstage.ai) announced that it had achieved the most research results by a domestic company by presenting 7 papers at the Data-centric Machine Learning Research (DMLR) Workshop, the most prestigious workshop in the field of Data-Centric AI. .
THE GLOBAL MACHINE LEARNING CONFERENCE (ICML 2023-DMLR) IS THE HIGHEST LEVEL ACADEMIC EVENT DEALING WITH THE THEORY AND PRACTICE OF MACHINE LEARNING. IT IS AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE WITH MORE THAN 70,000 PARTICIPANTS EVERY YEAR AND THE MOST INFLUENTIAL WITH A PAPER ADOPTION RATE OF 20% AND AN IMPACT FACTOR OF 6.99. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SOCIETY
DMLR, where the Upstage Data Team announced its research achievements, is a workshop on data-centric machine learning research during ICML 2023, attended by world-renowned scholar and professor Andrew Ng of Stanford University, who created Data-Centric AI. , a follow-up workshop to the NeurIPS 2021- Data Centric AI workshop that announced the birth of the field.
This year's DMLR will be held in Hawaii on July 29, 2023 as the largest research exchange in the field of Data-Centric AI, which will be held for the third time this year following last year's NeurIPS 2021- Data Centric AI workshop and ICML 2022- DataPerf workshop.
Upstage is “DMOps: Data Management Operations and Recipes”, which proposes a process for effectively building AI learning data in companies, and “Inter-Annotator Agreement in the Wild: Uncovering”, which enables effective cost management and efficient construction when building data. A total of 7 research results including “Its Emerging Roles and Considerations in Real-World Scenarios” will be presented at the workshop.
Four papers among the research results are evaluated as having opened a new horizon for joint research between startups and academia by conducting joint research with Professor Lim Hee-seok's research team at Korea University, a world-renowned scholar in the field of natural language processing.
Through joint research, Upstage and Korea University propose a new methodology, “Explainable Error Benchmark,” in the field of voice recognition post-processors, including research on data-driven machine translation and data-driven common sense reasoning, as well as an analysis thesis on the negative effects of synthesized data. various achievements have been achieved.
In particular, Upstage researcher Park Chan-joon, who participated in all 7 Upstage papers, has published papers in the field for three consecutive years from 2021, contributing to Upstage becoming a world-class “Data-Centric AI” specialized company.
With this research achievement, Upstage reaffirmed its global top technology ranging from source research to applied research in the field of Data-Centric AI. Last year, Upstage also presented papers at all three major AI conferences, including ICLR, CVPR, and ECCV, and established itself as the top AI technology startup.
IN ADDITION, IN THE INVESTIGATION OF THE '2021 GLOBAL AI TOP TIER SOCIETY PAPER' ANNOUNCED BY IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON LAST YEAR, IT WAS THE ONLY STARTUP FOLLOWING SAMSUNG, NAVER, KAKAO, AND LG TO RANK IN THE TOP 5 IN KOREA, DRAWING ATTENTION.
SEONGHOON KIM, CEO OF UPSTAGE, SAID, “I AM VERY HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE WORLD-CLASS RESEARCH RESULTS AT THIS ICML 2023-DMLR.” I WILL DO MY BEST TO MAKE IT HAPPEN,” HE SAID.
