(Upstage=2021/03/23) A large number of key domestic AI experts joined the startup Upstage (CEO Kim Seong-hoon, www.upstage.ai ) to accelerate corporate AI (artificial intelligence) transformation. They decided to join Upstage's vision to advance not only individual companies' AI innovation, but also the overall global AI technology.
Upstage announced on the 23rd that Bae Jae-kyung, former head of Kakao AI Lab Context Team, has joined as a machine learning leader (ML Leader). Leader Bae Jae-kyung is an expert in the field of machine learning who created the language context research team. From 2012 to 2016, he led Kakao's core technical tasks while serving as the head of the search engine team at Kakao.
Leader Bae Jae-kyung, who developed the initial model of Kakao's translation engine, is an AI expert who raised the level of Kakao's AI by successfully establishing tasks such as optical character recognition (OCR), dialogue model, and voice recognition/synthesis model development. He has also published papers in the Neuro Information Processing Systems Society (NeurlPS) and the Natural Language Processing International Society (EMNLP), which are major global AI societies.
Cho Yong-jin, a former Kakao AI Lab machine translation TF leader, also joined as an upstage research engineer. Engineer Cho Yong-jin participated as a key member from the initial stage of Kakao's machine translation and developed an honorific translation engine. Engineer Cho also created a real-time issue search word ranking model for the portal site.
UPSTAGE ALSO HIRED TWO DEVELOPERS FROM KAKAO ENTERPRISE, AN AI AFFILIATE THAT LEADS KAKAO'S BUSINESS-TO-BUSINESS (B2B) BUSINESS. SEON-GYU PARK, A RESEARCH ENGINEER FROM SEOUL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, DEVELOPED THE OCR SERVICE MODEL FOR KAKAO ENTERPRISE. ENGINEER SEO DAE-WON IS AN AI DEVELOPER FROM A LANGUAGE MAJOR AND BUILT THE NATURAL LANGUAGE UNDERSTANDING (NLU) CONVERSATION MODEL OF KAKAO ENTERPRISE.
THE NEWLY RECRUITED EXPERTS AGREED TO JOIN UPSTAGE IN AGREEMENT WITH THE GOAL OF MEETING THE HIGH NEEDS OF DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN COMPANIES FOR AI TECHNOLOGY AND RAISING THE LEVEL OF AI TECHNOLOGY ACROSS THE GLOBE. UPSTAGE IDENTIFIES THE AREAS WHERE INNOVATION IS POSSIBLE THROUGH AI TECHNOLOGY AMONG CORPORATE PROBLEMS, AND PROVIDES CONSULTING INCLUDING BASIC AI MODEL AND SYSTEM CONSTRUCTION AND AI TEAM NECESSARY FOR THIS. IT ALSO ESTABLISHED A HONG KONG BRANCH TO EDUCATE AND RECRUIT GLOBAL TALENT.

Upstage's co-founders include CTO Lee Hal-seok, who led Naver Visual AI / OCR and achieved global results, and CSO Park Eun-jung, who led the model team of Papago, the world's best translator.
