(Seoul, Jul. 13, 2023 /Upstage) Upstage, South Korea's leading AI startup, is building its presence with Google to outline its vision for “AI for Everyone.”

On July 13, Upstage announced its participation in "Korea Artificial Intelligence Week: AI for Korea 2023," a conference co-hosted by Google and the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT). This collaborative effort reflects their shared objective of positioning South Korea as a prominent player in the AI domain.

The AI for Korea 2023 is the largest AI conference organized in partnership with Google and MSIT. Spanning over three days from July 13 to 15, the event aims to expand and globalize Seoul's dynamic AI industry by forging ties with Google, the foremost leader in the AI field. This will be accomplished through collaborative R&D initiatives, as well as the nurturing of globally competitive AI talent.

On the first day of the conference, themed "AI for Everyone," Upstage stood out as the sole Korean company to deliver a presentation. CTO Hwalsuk Lee took center stage, illuminating the expansive potential and numerous business prospects within the generative AI market. Lee's talk encompassed a comprehensive examination of the present state of generative AI technology, showcasing its various applications. Notably, he emphasized Upstage's very own ‘AskUp,’ a widely acclaimed generative chat AI with an impressive user base of 1.3 million, solidifying Upstage's leading position in the industry.

Lee then continued to outline a blueprint for implementing ‘ssLLM’ (small-scale LLM), an alternative solution that has garnered significant attention for its ability to overcome some of the limitations associated with larger models.

Furthermore, Upstage introduced the company’s flagship AI application AskUp that provides users with easy access to generative AI tools through messenger platforms like KakaoTalk and LINE. The presentation also showcased ‘AskUp Seargest,’ an enterprise solution that combines hyper-personalized 'search-and-suggest' functions with the AskUp chat interface.

AskUp Seargest stands out from existing chat AI solutions because it can process real-time information and offer personalized recommendations. This is due to Upstage's expertise in engineering and fine-tuning chat AI solutions, which they have gained from operating AskUp. AskUp Seargest has become increasingly popular among corporate clients because it offers an intuitive interface and delivers desired information through an easy-to-use AI personalization solution.

UPSTAGE CTO LEE TAL-SEOK SAID, “IT IS AN HONOR TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WEEK 2023 EVENT WITH GOOGLE, WHICH OPENED THE POSSIBILITY OF GENERATIVE AI THROUGH THE TRANSFORMER MODEL,” AND ADDED, “UPSTAGE WILL CONTINUE TO COLLABORATE WITH VARIOUS COMPANIES INCLUDING GOOGLE TO DEVELOP GENERATIVE AI.” “WE WILL WORK TOGETHER TO THINK ABOUT WAYS TO FURTHER INCREASE USABILITY AND WORK HARDER TO BUILD RESPONSIBLE AI,” HE SAID.

Minister Jong-ho Lee of MSIT delivered an opening remark, which was followed by speeches from Rep. Seong-joong Park of the People Power Party and Koh Jean, chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Digital Platform Government. The event proceeded with keynote speeches by distinguished experts representing both Google and South Korea. Notable speakers included Yossi Matias, Google's Vice President of Engineering and Research, Kyoung-hoon Kim, Google Korea's Country Director, Professor Byoung-Tak Zhang from Seoul National University, and CEO Jun-hee Cho of the Korea Software Industry Association, who shared their insights and visions for the AI capabilities of Seoul.

Following the keynote sessions, the event featured panel discussions and a presentation by Upstage about generative AI applications. This provided an opportunity to discuss the current state of Korea's AI industries and explore prospects. Participants were also able to witness cutting-edge AI technologies showcased on-site, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the latest advancements in the field.

The AI for Korea 2023 is a three-day event, each day focusing on a different theme: "AI for Everyone," "AI for Business," and "AI for Students." On the first day, renowned experts from Google and South Korea will lead discussions on the latest trends in AI research. The second day will delve into various topics presented at Google I/O 2023, such as Android, Google Play, machine learning, and cloud solutions. The final day will feature a job fair specifically designed for university students who aspire to work in the AI/ML field. Additionally, outstanding projects from the international competition for Google's student developers will be showcased during this day.
