(Upstage = 2023/11/15) Upstage and Qanda have become pioneers in the domestic industry by jointly developing a Large Language Model (LLM) capable of solving mathematical problems.

Upstage announced its partnership with Qanda on 15th, through which the two companies will join hands to create a private LLM specialized in mathematics domain.

The realm of generative AI is expanding into specialized knowledge areas like mathematics, as demonstrated by WolframAlpha's integration with the ChatGPT plug-in. However, general-purpose models often exhibit errors, especially in straightforward calculations, and the persistent issue of 'AI hallucination,' generating false information, remains.

In response, the two companies are actively advancing the specialized language model, tentatively named 'MathGPT.' This model is designed to minimize hallucinations, providing problem-solving capabilities and explanations through mathematical reasoning. Following strategic investment from KT in September, Upstage and Qanda initiated joint development of the MathGPT. Upstage handles the model's engine and fine-tuning, while Qanda contributes specialized mathematical data for model learning.

Leveraging the technology that secured the top position in Hugging Face's Open LLM Leaderboard, Upstage incorporates Qanda's extensive, high-quality data to train a macro language model. This model is engineered to comprehend complex mathematical formulas and concepts challenging to express in natural language. The ultimate goal is to present the world's leading LLM, surpassing the performance of GPT-3.5.

Through this collaboration, Upstage visualizes its entry into the private LLM field within the knowledge education sector. The Upstage private LLM, specialized in preventing hallucinations by learning only internal data, boasts a significant competitive edge in the education industry, where accurate answers and problem explanations are crucial.

Moving forward, Upstage plans to expand its private LLM territory based on its proprietary language model, 'Solar.' Recent agreements with major companies, including Connect Wave, Lotte Shopping, and Metaverse Entertainment, mark the beginning of earnest commercialization efforts. The overarching strategy involves broadening the application of generative AI across diverse industry sectors, such as finance and manufacturing.
