In the first 'AI Olympics' Kaggle competition of this year, Korea's representative AI startup Upstage spit out the spirit of being in second place.

KAGGLE IS A DATA EXPERT COMMUNITY AND AI COMPETITION PLATFORM OWNED BY GOOGLE, AND OPERATES A RATING AND RANKING SYSTEM TO ASSESS THE OBJECTIVE ABILITIES OF AI EXPERTS AROUND THE WORLD. RANKING AND GRADES ARE MADE BASED ON THE RESULTS OF A CONTEST THAT SOLVES PROBLEMS OF VARIOUS COMPANIES WITH AI, AND THE GRADES ARE DIVIDED INTO FIVE GRADES: GRANDMASTER, MASTER, EXPERT, CONTRIBUTOR, AND NOVICE. This Kaggle AI contest is an 'Optiver Realized Volatility Prediction' contest hosted by Optiver, a global financial company. A challenge was conducted with the goal of setting the optimal price. 3,852 teams participated in this competition, which took place for about 7 months from last June, and competed in AI technology, and Grandmaster Kim Yun-su of Upstage won the gold medal in 2nd place overall.


The contest allows participants to build a model that predicts short-term stock price volatility in the future 10 minutes from the previous 10-minute stock quote and close data for hundreds of stocks over a 3-month period, and then compares it with real market data collected over the next 3 months. to evaluate the accuracy of the prediction. Upstage improved the machine learning algorithm performance to increase prediction consistency and achieved a result in the top 0.05%.


In particular, Grandmaster Kim Yun-soo, who won this competition, was the youngest in last year and was named the 6th Kaggle Grandmaster in Korea. Grandmaster Yunsu Kim, an undergraduate student at Seoul National University, participated in Upstage's Global Residency course last year, an AI talent nurturing program. Based on this, it has won five gold medals in the world artificial intelligence competition since last year, ranking 19th in the Kaggle global ranking.
